It was a wonderful way to celebrate the 60th wedding anniversary of their parents, but more importantly to establish a legacy of charitable giving for decades to come long after.

That’s how the Julius (Ziggy) & Sarah Bleviss Endowment Fund began in 1999.  Their children contributed $1000 to celebrate the special milestone in the life of their parents, their residency in Calgary in excess of 70 years, and a tribute to their two daughters who predeceased them.

Through continued family contributions, friends offering tributes, and the strategic investment strategy of the Jewish Community Foundation of Calgary, the fund has grown to $17,000 in thirteen years.

“We were so happy that our family could also provide direction to the foundation in terms of fund allocation.  This gives us the opportunity to continue supporting community programs that were important to our parents”, says Morris Bleviss.  In the past, the annual income from the fund has been distributed to Art a la Carte (www.artalacarte.org), the Calgary United Jewish Appeal (www.jewishcalgary.org) and the Beth Tzedec Synagogue Yahrtzeit fund (www.bethtzedec.ca).

The family looks forward to continuing the tradition of Julius and Sarah Bleviss in the years to come.
