2018 ESSAY TOPIC:
Does International recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital help the prospects for peace in the Middle East?
Participants are expected to present an arguable opinion on this topic. The goal is to convince the reader that one’s opinion is valid and worth pursuing. Ideas need to be carefully examined and arguments fully developed in logical sequence. Essays will be assessed by different judges based on the following criteria: Use of Language and Focus; Utilization of Facts and Historical Events; Argument Development; Overall Persuasiveness.
First Prize is $2,700 – Second Prize is $1,800 – Third Prize is $900

2018 Norman Ronald Silver Sports Leadership Award Nominations
“He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life”

Do you know an athlete in a team sport who inspires others? Someone who motivates others through hard work and a positive attitude? Nominations for the 2018 Norman Ronald Silver Sports Leadership award are now being accepted until Friday, June 8, 2018. The recipient will be presented with a personal achievement plaque, a $100 honorarium and recognition on an award plaque displayed at the Calgary JCC.
The annual award is managed by the Jewish Community Foundation of Calgary through a memorial endowment fund created by Norman’s parents, Maxine and Dr. Edward Silver, in 1997. The Norman Ronald Silver Sports Leadership Award is to be presented to ‘an athlete who exemplifies the true meaning of team spirit and sportsmanship by serving as a leader and role model for others’.
Nominate someone you know by sending a letter or e-mail to the Foundation office. Provide information about the athlete you are nominating, and why you feel they deserve this recognition.

2018 Agency Grant Information Now Open
Agency Grant information is now open for applications.
The intention of this request for proposal is to gain insight in to each agency and the projects or programs that need support. The average size of grants can range between $500 and $2000 and will vary from year-to-year based on the available income for distribution. Proposals will be reviewed by members of the JCFC Grants and Allocation Committee in May. Grant awards will be announced in early June.
Qualified charities recognized by Canada Revenue are eligible for JCFC grants. A qualified charity is a charitable organization, public foundation or private foundation registered with the Canada Revenue Agency. It must be established and resident in Canada, operate for charitable purposes, and devote its resources to charitable activities.
