Celebrating The Vivian Katz Endowment Fund for Jewish Education Through Music!

CALGARY, AB –  On February 2, 2013 Larry & Deborah Katz are hosting a fabulous Concert at the Calgary JCC featuring  world renowned, Lenny Solomon, the creator of Shlock Rock!  Shlock Rock is a Jewish rock band that teaches Jewish ideas through song parodies.

Larry is celebrating a special birthday but didn’t want his family to have a party for him. So he decided to ‘shine a light’ on the Jewish Community Foundation, the new home of the Vivian Katz Endowment Fund for Jewish Education (an endowment fund in memory of his mother Vivianz”l ) and host an event that will raise awareness of the organization.  Larry said, “What better way to celebrate a milestone than to honor my mother, raise awareness for an organization I care about and share the gift of music with my community.”

Musical artist, Lenny Solomon will be travelling to Calgary from Israel and has just recently come home from a two country tour and release of their newest album A SHABBAT IN LIVERPOOL – Shabbat Prayers and Songs to Fab Tunes.

Shlock Rock is a Jewish Rock Band that teaches Jewish ideas through music using song parodies, original music in both English and Hebrew and children’s songs. Lenny started the ball rolling in 1986 and since then the band has released more than 30 amazing albums!  Their mission is to encourage Jewish pride, identity and awareness and help promote Jewish continuity through music. Shlock Rock has performed over 2,000 shows in the United States, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Israel and England.  Educators in both formal and informal settings have used the music to spark discussions and activities and the results speak for themselves.  To this day there are inspirational stories that are emerging testifying to the fact that Shlock Rock songs have helped both individuals and Jewish families get closer to their heritage.

Larry and Deborah enjoyed a Shlock Rock concert during a past visit to Israel, and are thrilled to share this fun experience with friends and family.  “Lenny embodies the Jewish values that were so important to my mother; Jewish continuity, education and music.  His music is a perfect way to celebrate her legacy and the ways we will continue giving tzedekah in her honor.”
