Daniel Blitt, Director & Investment Committee Chair

Dan is currently a Director in the Natural Resources Investment Banking Division at Barclays Capital Canada Inc. based in Calgary. He possesses over 10 years of experience in the investment banking industry with extensive advisory and capital markets knowledge across all components of the energy sector. Dan holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Finance) with distinction from the University of Calgary and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder. He lives in Calgary with his wife Melissa and their two daughters Rya and Lauren.

Tamara Cohos, Director

Tamara brings a strong business and legal background to her diverse career background encompassing fund development and executive search. She is known for her relationships, service orientation and strategic approach to bringing together diverse stakeholders and securing “wins” for communities and awakened organizations. As part of the development team at Mount Royal University, Tamara works with partners and philanthropists to secure support for MRU’s strategic priorities. Her fund development background also includes more than a decade securing major gifts for the Calgary Health Region as a senior leader at the Calgary Health Trust and Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation. As an Executive Search Principal, Tamara secured talented leaders to re-energize organizations across a wide range of industries and not-for-profit organizations. Ms. Cohos is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School, and began her career practicing commercial law in one of Calgary’s leading law firms. Outside of work, you are likely to find her running after, carpooling, and cheering on her two busy teenage sons.


Eytan Donsky, Director

Eytan graduated from Mount Royal University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He spent 3 years working at BDO in their audit and assurance practice, working on a number of clients in various industries including the non-profit sector. Recently, he started a new role at MNP in their private enterprise group while completing his articling for his CPA designation. Eytan brings his knowledge of tax, and his not-for-profit experience as valuable assets to the foundation.

Jackie Halpern, Director

Jackie Halpern is an experienced and successful lawyer practicing civil litigation for more than 24 years in Calgary, Alberta. With a primary focus on personal injury and insurance law, Jackie’s passion is acting for Plaintiffs in serious personal injury cases. Jackie has extensive court and mediation experience, using her considerable expertise and compassion to ensure that her clients are properly served by the legal system. Jackie is a dedicated community volunteer, believing strongly in the adage of giving back. She contributes her time and energy to many organizations, including most recently the Calgary Bar Association, the Calgary Glenmore PC Association, Jewish Family Services, and the Beth Tzedec Synagogue. Jackie was honoured to be appointed as Queen’s Counsel by the Province of Alberta in 2011 and is a proud recipient of the 2012 Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of her significant contribution to the Province and community.


Nelson Halpern,  Director

Nelson Halpern is a Chartered Accountant who received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics at the University of Calgary. He has twenty-nine years of experience in public accounting, with nine years at Price Waterhouse in Calgary where he worked in the audit group and later the tax group. He has completed the CICA in-depth tax course and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta, the Entrepreneurial CAs of Calgary and the Canadian Tax Foundation. He received his “TEP” designation from the Society of Tax and Estate Practitioners in 2002. Nelson has been a volunteer with various not-for-profit organizations and is a past president of the House of Jacob synagogue, a past president of the Akiva Academy day school and has been a director of the Calgary Jewish Community Council board since 1985 where he has chaired and served on numerous committees and is a past president.


Stuart Libin, Director & Grants & Allocation Committee Chair

Stuart was born and raised in Calgary and received an Economics degree while going to school in Ontario.  His career is diverse and includes business development, property management and financial planning leadership.  Over the years, he has dedicated countless hours to the community at large and the Jewish community in Calgary.  His most recent volunteer commitments are UJC, the annual Sports Dinner for JCC, PAC, and a Director with the Jewish Community Foundation of Calgary.


Ellen Magidson, Director

Ellen Magidson is the Development Director for Western Sky Land Trust, a regional conservancy. She is responsible for communications, programming, community engagement, government relations and fund development.Previously, Ellen was a 15 year associate with Market Alert Limited, a Toronto based competitive intelligence consultancy that provides primary market research as well as educational support to Canadian corporations. Ellen holds a BA, Economics, from McGill University as well as an MBA, specializing in communications. She serves on a number of not-for profit boards, both national and community-based.Ellen moved from Toronto to Calgary with her family in 2001, and is glad to have the opportunity to support and contribute to wonderful the Jewish community that welcomed them.



Stuart Myron, Chair

Stuart Myron is well known in the community having served the Beth Tzedec Congregation consecutively for more than twenty years in the position of Director and a member of the Executive in the roles of Treasurer, Vice President Finance and President. He has served the Jewish Community Foundation of Calgary as a Director for the past six years holding the position of Chair since 2013.  Stuart holds a Masters of Business Administration degree and served for six years as a Trustee of Co-operators Pension Plan holding assets in excess of one half billion dollars.


Richard Nagan, Director

Richard graduated from the University of Calgary in 1996 with a Bachelors of Commerce degree and his experience in the Canadian investment industry spans two decades. He began his career in the investment industry in 1994 with Nesbitt Burns, and following a lengthy time at TD Waterhouse, recently moved with his team to RBC Dominion Securities. His background with major Canadian investment dealers has provided him with a well-rounded, conservative perspective on investment management and a proven track record for managing clients’ wealth. He enjoys seeing his clients succeed, and has a passion for investment results. Richard lives in Calgary with his wife Kimberly, and their two boys, Liam and Seth.

Mark Shilling, Treasurer

Mark graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1980. He articled with the accounting firm of Arthur Andersen & Co., obtaining his CA designation in 1982.  Mark joined the firm of Canadian Wealth Management in 1984 where he remained as a partner until the firm was sold to Societe General in 2008. He consulted to the firm until September 2010. He now provides independent financial advice on a fee basis. Throughout his career Mark has served as a Director of many junior oil and gas companies, and as a Founder of a number of Junior Capital Pool companies.
